The foundational work of the Fundamental AI Research (FAIR) team at Meta has significantly advanced AI’s science notably through open-source platforms like PyTorch to democratized AI research.

In this documentary short, we celebrate the people behind the research and the innovators at AI at Meta who have worked hard to advance the field to where it is today.

Documentarians at heart

For the last 20 years our co-founders have directed, produced and edited documentaries across the country. Their passion for telling stories cinematically reflects in the quality and texture we bring to many of our profile projects utilizing cinematic quality lenses and lighting to catch the gravity of moments. Specifically with FAIR we wanted to capture this as a historical moment celebrating the immense effects the team has had for all of AI over the last ten years.

Highlight Real Science

So much of the success for FAIR and AI over the last 10 years is the actual open source science published in the form of research papers. How can we show highly technical ideas while keeping the energy and not overwhelm people? Our team used creative combinations of zooms, pans, and underlines—emulating the movement of a microfiche machine—to bring attention to interesting phrases and visuals in research papers.
